I’m sure by now most of you have seen or heard about the Factory Assembly Manuals from 1947 through 1972. Prior to the mid-70s, no one except the actual Factory workers on the Factory floors had ever seen them before. In the mid-70s, I spent a lot of time in around Detroit, Michigan, visiting and working with contacts within General Motors. One day when I was at the tech center, one of my good friends showed me 22 bankers' boxes full of the sheets from the factory assembly floor for each of these years. Can you imagine how many pieces of paper there were? Most of them were all on thin paper, and they covered every Model General Motors made as well as a lot of revisions. These were the only copies left straight off of the loose-leaf binders on the Factory Assembly floor. I asked him what he was going to do with them and he said “do you want them?” Of course, I obliged, and they were sent to me at that time. I personally went through them and picked out what I thought were interesting pages for the Truck restorer. We started with a 55 model year, as I anticipated doing each year separately. The very first ones just listed 55 on the cover. After I sold my business, it was decided to add 59 to the cover of that book.
FYI, there is nothing pertaining to anything other than the 55 model year in the 1955-59 factory Assembly manual at this time. When I did the 60 to 66 and the 67-72 manuals, I took the liberty of adding multiple years.
You will notice that they are copyrighted by my old company, Golden State Pickup Parts on the back cover. One other thing to note is that the 47-55 first series is really only the 1955 first series information. There were no pages prior to that book, at least that I uncovered. There you go a little throwback information. Please check out my pricing on these books as I believe it to be extremely competitive, not to mention you’ll own a piece of history.
